ABOUT

Put very simply, Matt Gross is a traveler. For more than 25 years—since he was almost 8—he has crossed oceans and mountains in search of new sights, new flavors, new friends, and new experiences.

Today he writes the Frugal Traveler column for the New York Times, a job that carries him all over the world, from Uruguay and Malta to Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan. But he not only writes—he shoots photos and video of his adventures, all of which give color and texture to his words.

As a freelancer, he also has the liberty to engage in other projects outside the New York Times. His stories appear in publications such as Saveur and Nerve.com, and he is currently putting together proposals for a book and a television series.

When Matt's not traveling, he lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Jean.
